Social Butterfly meets Rec Center

I have heard great things about the newly renovated Eureka Valley Rec Center in the Castro, so we ventured there yesterday. I read something about the importance of playing with your child and their need for social activities so off we went. It was paradise for kids. Various fun mats on the floor, toys here and there were big kids who crawled, walked and ran. Very exciting.

*New mom alert* I took Oskar out of the stroller and bam the stroller fell backwards. My coffee, a rare afternoon treat which I never get, went all over the floor. A nice mom of Ezra offered help and words of encouragement. Then we got inside the playroom....Oskar was so happy he threw up on a toy train. I was horrified - not sure whose train it was and where its owner was. Turns out they are toys donated to the center. A precocious little girl grabbed the train away from Oskar. What to do as a parent? I am new to navigating the world of "sharing". Oskar didn't seem to mind and she abandoned the toy momentarily. Then we played on the mat and I smelled something. Some child had definitely pooped. I looked around and around...then in front of me....at Oskar. Sniff test confirmed it. We had poop in our diaper. No stone left unturned. We headed to bathroom and successfully changed his diaper. Thank god I brought our diaper bag. Sometimes I tempt fate and leave it at home. It had one diaper in it. Again, luck saved us.

Same said girl hit Gael. Milla was a quick draw and ready with a good retort. Milla and Gael joined us after a bit and we had lots of fun with the two of them goofing off with howls of delight and lots of warm flapping.

  2. Wish I knew Spanish, but I get the gist! Sounds like you all were "made for each other." So nice that Oskar has a ready-made brother and an extra mom! Wish I could have been a fly on the wall at the rec center. So nice that you went together. Gramsy
