So we seem to be reading tons of books about animals and thought it high time to get Oskar to the Zoo so he could actually see some of these creatures we read about. The first giraffe and zebra sitings were breath taking. And then the baby gorilla named Hasani stole the show. Oskar saw rhinos, tigers, lions, parrots, flamingos, gorillas, chimps, prairie dogs, turtles, eagle, hawk, owl and many more. The children's zoo section had a family farm complete with a petting zoo in it. Oskar patted the goat, turtle and baby chick, listened to a rooster, sat in a horse saddle, saw a horse/llama and rode a tractor.
After 2.5 hours, we were all pooped. Oskar had a prime lunch seating in front of the flamingos. We had some heat lamped sweet potatoe fries which were less than exciting but lunch awaited the adults at home. Oskar cried "nayh-nayh" as soon as the wheels started rolling. This tends to mean his woobie or anything that is yummy. We didn't have a woobie but his red fleece and a bit of music did the trick and he was asleep in minutes...didn't even wake-up for the transfer to his crib.
Oh, it looks like so much fun! Wish I could have been there. The Richmond Zoo will have to be a "must" on Oskar's next visit to Richmond! Gramsy
