Last week, O and I went to my favorite neighborhood playground which has an attached community garden. There are usually only 1 or 2 kids at this playground in the afternoon and we enjoy playing on the see saws and going down the slide together. For the 2nd time, I took Oskar to the garden and showed him all the veggies and fruits growing. Not surprisingly, the berry-loving O was intrigued by the strawberries. He didn't pick them as expected...he touched them gently and looked at me. I explained that they grew on the plants. On our way up the stairs we came across several monarch butterflies. He was captivated. It was a special moment to share this taste of nature with him.
We are headed to the Mendocino area this weekend where we will be staying at a lovely cottage complete with wood burning stove and beach only a walk away. They have an organic garden, orchard and chickens....the farm education will continue. I can't wait.
If I can't live in the country, I can sure as hell visit it from time to time. Long live farmers. :-)
